West Bromwich is perhaps best known for West Bromwich Albion, the football club which dominates the town’s history, culture and entertainment scene. Sitting in the West Midlands, Bromwich has a population of just over 135,000.
However, West Bromwich goes beyond football. Indeed it was mentioned in the Doomsday book as ‘the little village on the heath of broom’. Its original church, All Saints, is now a good example of Norman remains.
The original heath was of importance to the area, growing crops, and meeting the needs of the local population. It began to grow through the industries of ironworks and coal.
