Nuneaton is the largest town in Warwickshire, sitting in the north of the county. Here, George Eliot, the author, was born in 1819 and lived for much of her life. In fact, her novel, ‘Scenes of a Clerical Life’ focuses very much on Nuneaton itself.
The area is also famous for being the homeland of many of Shakespeare’s pals, including Ben Johnson, Michael Drayton and John Donne all coming from nearby.
Nuneaton played a crucial role in the industrial revolution and the surrounding coal mining areas, making use of the network of waterways.
