Rotherham was once a strong coal mining town as well as being instrumental in the British steel industry. Sitting on the River Don, as a confluence with the Rother, Rotherham has long been on the map as forming part of the route between Doncaster and Sheffield.
Unfortunately gaining notoriety in recent years for the child sexual abuse scandal, Rotherham has suffered immense damage to its reputation. Nevertheless Rotherham is an interesting and vibrant town with a mix of experiences, history and culture on offer. The commercial town centre is home to a number of enterprises, yet quickly outside of town you are in beautiful rural and farming areas.
