A beautiful and quintessential market town, with a traditional and expansive market square, Mansfield is in the large county of Nottinghamshire. It sits in the heart of the Maun Valley, and as such is secluded and surrounded by hills and countryside, making it hard to believe it is just 12 miles from Nottingham itself.
Mansfield has a distinct heritage, and as such is Nottinghamshire’s only local authority which directly elects its own mayor. However, like many other northern towns, its roots hark back to the industrial days of coal mining with textile production alongside. Mansfield has struggled in recent years to weather decline, with unemployment notably high.
