With not quite 100,000 residents, Hemel Hempstead is a fairly large town in Hertfordshire. Not too far from London, it is largely a commuter town for workers in central and north London. However, it’s an historic town in its own right, despite the fact it grew exponentially when developed as a new town following the Second World War. In fact, there’s evidence that there was a settlement here as long ago as the 8th century!
Now, Hemel Hempstead has a vibrant population. The local economy today largely centres on both light and heavy engineering, with a significant focus on telecommunications and technology.
